Special Features Mt. Fuji feature

Even for Japanese people, Mt. Fuji is a fascinating mountain that draws in huge numbers of visitors every year. People enjoy it in various ways, whether gazing at its beautiful shape from far away, or climbing the mountain to view the sunrise.<br>
We would like to introduce you to Mt. Fuji viewing spots that can only be enjoyed on clear winter days.

Mt. Fuji is a symbolic mountain in Japan. It has long been the subject for Japanese works of art because of its beautiful, almost equilateral shape, a form that is found almost nowhere else on earth. Mt. Fuji is also Japan's largest volcano, which last erupted about 300 years ago, causing damage to the surrounding area from volcanic ash, etc. Volcanic activity has settled down in modern times, and many people enjoy attempting to reach the peak of the mountain in summer.

Clear winter days offer ideal views!

As Japan's largest mountain, standing 3,776m tall, Mt. Fuji can be seen from astonishingly far away. It can, of course, be seen from Tokyo, as well as the Enoshima beach resort, and the famous hot spring area of Hakone. It is fascinating to see how the view changes in each location. Mt. Fuji appears and disappears depending on the weather, but there is a relatively large number of clear days in winter in the Tokyo area, so there are many viewing opportunities!

  • *Views of Mt. Fuji are dependent on weather conditions.

Mountain climbing - a popular summer activity!

The optimum season for climbing Mt. Fuji is in summer after the snow has melted. Climbers usually drive to the fifth check point at 2,200 meters, and aim for the peak at 3,776 meters. Most stay in mountain huts en route to arrive at the summit before dawn with the goal of reaching the peak and seeing the morning sun. If the weather is favorable, the magnificent sunrise can be welcomed from the peak. Come and challenge yourself to climb Mt. Fuji in the summer! Caution The temperature at the summit of Mt. Fuji, which is more than 3,000m above sea level, is at least 20C lower than the temperature at the base of the mountain. Therefore, even in summertime it is necessary to take thorough precautions against the cold if you are intending to scale the summit of Mt. Fuji. It is also best to prepare proper shoes such as hiking boots, as the terrain under foot includes rocky areas and sandy soil.

Mt. Fuji can be seen from Tokyo, but the view is inhibited by buildings in most locations. Only a few tall buildings in Shinjuku face Mt. Fuji, so a key point is to find skyscrapers with viewing floors and multi-story restaurants.
