Types of Train Tickets
Ordinary tickets
- There are three kinds of ordinary tickets: one-way tickets, round-trip tickets and consecutive tickets.
- Fares vary according to distance traveled.
- Ordinary tickets are valid throughout the day of purchase only.
- Child fares are for children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Limited express tickets
- To ride the Limited Express Romancecar, passengers require a limited express ticket in addition to an ordinary ticket.
- All seats are reserved seats.

Commuter tickets
- Commuter tickets are ordinary rail tickets for passengers traveling between the same two points on a regular basis, mainly for work or study, and issued for travel between those two points.
- Commuter tickets are available in validity periods of one, three or six months.
- Commuter ticket holders may get on and off anywhere and any number of times at points in between the destinations specified on their commuter ticket.
- Commuter tickets may be used only by the individuals in whose names they are issued.
Ticket sets
Ordinary ticket, weekday discounted limited express ticket, off-peak discounted ordinary ticket and weekend/holiday discounted ordinary ticket sets are available.
Ordinary ticket sets
Fare: 10 times the one-way passenger fare, for 11 tickets.
Valid for: 3 months
Off-peak discounted ordinary ticket sets
May be used between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, December 30-31 and January 2-3.
Fare: 10 times the one-way passenger fare, for 12 tickets.
Valid for: 3 months
Weekend/holiday discounted ordinary ticket sets
May be used all day on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, December 30-31 and January 2-3.
Fare: 10 times the one-way passenger fare, for 14 tickets.
Valid for: 3 months
Weekday discounted limited express ticket sets
Set of 6 limited express tickets for use on weekdays only.
- Fare:
- 4,500 yen for tickets good between Shinjuku and Odawara (Hakone-Yumoto)
3,000 yen for tickets good between Shinjuku and Fujisawa/Katase-Enoshima - Valid for:
- 2 months

PASMO
- PASMO is an IC card ordinary train ticket.
- PASMO cards can be used on JR, public and private railway and subway lines and on buses in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
PASMO electronic cash
PASMO cards can be charged with cash and may be used at shops and vending machines displaying the PASMO sticker identifying them as members of the PASMO electronic cash system.
