Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden)

A favorite of railway fans everywhere, the “retro”-style Enoden train is the perfect way to travel to Kamakura and Enoshima.
The Enoshima Electric Railway, familiarly known as “Enoden,” links Fujisawa and Kamakura, a distance of approximately 10 kilometers. Fujisawa is the gateway to Enoshima, a popular resort area near Tokyo. Kamakura, which was the capital of Japan 800 years ago, is the site of the Great Buddha of Kamakura and numerous historic shrines and temples. Enoden marked its centenary in September 2002. Both nostalgic old-fashioned “retro” and modern, contemporary-style trains run on the line, which is very popular among sightseers from Japan and overseas. When visiting Kamakura and Enoshima, ride the Enoden and experience a return to earlier times.
An Enoden train in green livery stands out against the blue sea and skies. For direct access from Tokyo (Shinjuku) to Fujisawa, use the Odakyu “Romancecar”.
