Enoshima-Kamakura

The Shonan area, known for its beaches and other attractions, lies along the Pacific Ocean. Kamakura is a historic site that was Japan's capital over 800 years ago. These 2 adjacent sightseeing areas, conveniently accessible from Tokyo, are always popular with visitors. Enoshima, the symbol of Shonan, has a lighthouse and botanical gardens, and many other attractions including an aquarium. To get to Kamakura, take the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku to Fujisawa, and then transfer to the Enoden, a train that weaves its way along the scenic coastline and through traditional neighborhoods. Kamakura, with its numerous historic temples and shrines, a long main street lined with traditional shops, and the 11-meter-tall Great Buddha (Daibutsu), offers sights that recreate the atmosphere of Japan's ancient capital.
