Cherry blossom viewing spots along the Odakyu Lines

There are many spots along the Odakyu Lines where you can enjoy the abundance of seasonal plants. We will introduce information on cherry blossom viewing spots that are loved by locals as well as spots that are popular with tourists. Why not experience the unique scenery of the region and spring in Japan in a new way?

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a botanical oasis in the middle of the city. Its vast grounds of 58.3 hectares are characterized by its Landscape Garden, Formal Garden, and Japanese Traditional Garden, filled with seasonal plants and scenery. Some 1,300 900 cherry trees of around 65 70 different varieties are planted in the gardens, and the blossoms come into bloom in turn from mid-February through mid-April. The especially popular Yoshino cherry trees are best seen from the end of March to the beginning of April. In addition, various types of Yaezakura such as Ichiyo, Kanzan and Fugenzo are particularly worth seeing. Cherry blossoms against a backdrop of city buildings makes for a distinctly Tokyo-style sightseeing experience. Also, bringing alcohol purchased outside of the premises, smoking cigarettes, and using sports equipment and musical instruments in the garden are prohibited. However, the use of certain specified sports equipment is permitted in the Kids Area.

Shinjuku Central Park

Shinjuku Central Park is located next to the skyscraper district of Nishi-Shinjuku. Relax in the lush green environment of the park while gazing up at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings and other towering structures. When in bloom, the cherry trees are delightful. Enjoy the blossoms of the Yoshino and Takato Kohigan varieties of cherry blossoms with their characteristic slightly dark, pink flowers.

Kitazawagawa Ryokudo

An abundance of seasonal flowers blooms along the Kitazawagawa Ryokudo, a path about 4.3 km in length connecting Akatsutsumi and Ikejiri. The row of about 150 cherry trees between Loop Road. No. 7 and Awajima Street is a famous hanami spot.

Ikuta Ryokuchi Park

In Ikuta Ryokuchi Park, where Mt. Masugata is located, there are a total of 1,500 cherry blossom trees, including the Yamazakura and Yoshino varieties, and you can enjoy looking at the cherry blossoms from the benches or the observatory in the square at Mt. Masugata. When they are in full bloom, the entire mountain is covered in pink, which is an amazing sight to see.

As you walk along this approximately 1.3km avenue of trees along the Asaogawa River, you can see the cherry blossoms reflected in the surface of the water, providing visitors with the feeling of a bright and beautiful spring.

Hikichigawa Riverside

This avenue of cherry trees extends along both banks of the Hikichigawa River for 1.5km. The cherry blossoms cover the river like a floral arch, providing an incredibly enticing spectacle for visitors.
