Enjoy traditional sweets while overlooking a nature-rich garden/Toraya Kobo
Toraya Kobo was inspired by the desire to go back to basics in recreating a modern venue for making traditional Japanese confections (wagashi). Here, you can enjoy handmade sweets unique to this location, such as Manju (steamed bun), Daifuku (rice cake filled with bean paste), and Dorayaki (bean paste sandwiched between two pancakes), while freely strolling through the picturesque grounds featuring plum groves, bamboo forests, and ponds. A particularly popular item is the "Dorayaki" made using plenty of locally produced “sakura” eggs.
The area where the workshop is located used to be a popular summer resort with many villas built at the foot of Mt. Fuji from the Meiji to Showa eras (1860s-1980s). There are also tea fields nearby, and the workshop uses sencha (green tea) from these fields. Surrounded by nature, you can listen to the sound of bamboo swaying in the wind and savor simple traditional wagashi at the terrace seats, enjoying a rich and tranquil moment.
