Izu

Izu, a peninsula jutting out into the Pacific Ocean, is famous for its beautiful beaches, plentiful hot springs (onsen) and wonderful scenery. The Izu Peninsula is divided into four areas: Ito, Naka-Izu, Minami-Izu and Nishi-Izu. Ito, the gateway to Izu, has many hot springs, art museums and plentiful accommodations. Nishi-Izu (western Izu) and Minami-Izu (southern Izu) are especially well known for their beautiful coastline and gushing hot springs. Naka-Izu (central Izu) has scenic nature in the form of mountains, rivers and waterfalls, in addition to hot springs. Conveniently accessible from Tokyo (Shinjuku) either by the Odakyu “Romancecar” to Numazu or by JR line via Odawara.
