Visit one of Tokyo's most popular districts for cutting-edge fashion and more.
Shinjuku Station is the busiest train station in the world and is serviced by six railway operators, including Odakyu Railway.
In the area surrounding Shinjuku Station, there are shopping districts around the East Exit and the South Exit, as well as major electronic retailers and bookstores around the West Exit. Japan's largest nightlife district, Kabuki-cho, is located immediately north of the station.
For shopping, we recommend Odakyu Department Store and the shopping complex Odakyu HALC, which houses Bic Camera, a major retailer of consumer electronics. For youth fashion brands, head to Shinjuku Mylord and Flags at the South Exit.
For food lovers, there is an abundance of choice, from Japanese restaurants to a variety of global cuisines, including reasonably-priced izakaya bars and luxurious first-class restaurants.
Tokyo landmarks such as Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree can be seen, and even Mount Fuji can be made out in the distance if the weather is good.
One of Japan's largest nightlife districts, with many bars and restaurants open until late at night or even until morning, Kabuki-cho is often called the sleepless town.
Odakyu Department Store is a massive department store connected directly to Shinjuku Station selling foods, cosmetics, and international brand items.
The vermillion Hanazono Shrine exists quietly within the Shinjuku megapolis.
Shinjuku has plenty of live music venues, karaoke bars, cinemas and playhouses, many of which operate around the clock. You will have no lack of things to do when it comes to the nightlife.
The Eisa Matsuri Festival is a tradition of Okinawa in which the spirits of ancestors are seen off on Old Bon. It is also a ceremony to pray for family safety and prosperity. Enjoy the sanshin, an Okinawan instrument, as well as Okinawan-style singing and dancing.
There are about 500 rosebushes representing about 110 varieties of roses that can be enjoyed in spring and autumn in the flowerbeds of the French Formal Garden at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Please note that alcohol may not be brought onto the grounds and that the use of various sporting equipment is prohibited.
A light display at Shinjuku Southern Terrace, Takashimaya Times Square, Shinjuku Maynds Tower, the JR Minami Shinjuku Building, the JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower, Suica Penguin Park and other locations. Note: The photograph is from the 2017 light display.
This festival has been held to pray for good luck and commercial prosperity since the Meiji period. The Otori Matsuri Festival held at Hanazono-jinja shrine is visited each year by 600,000 people, and a show tent with unusual sights and performances.
Every year, 1000 cherry blossom trees in 65 different varieties come into bloom on the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden grounds. In April, multiple varieties can be enjoyed in bloom at the same time for a long duration. When the Yoshino and double-flowered cherry blossoms are in season, the Garden opens every day as a special spring feature. Please note that alcohol may not be brought onto the grounds and that the use of various sporting equipment is prohibited.
