The mission of the Odakyu Group is to pass on a beautiful global environment and a kind society to future generations and
actively engage in solving environmental issues, such as reducing CO2 emissions, recycling resources, conservation,
and utilization of natural resources, through our business activities.
Environmentally friendly stations
The Higashi-Kitazawa, Shimo-Kitazawa, and Setagaya-Daita Stations are equipped with solar-power-generating systems, skylights, light ducts, and geothermal heat pump systems to reduce their impact on the environment. Going forward, we will work to construct environmentally friendly stations which fit the areas in which they are built.
Recycling PET bottles at stations
With the cooperation of our customers in recycling caps and labels, we recycle used PET bottles into new PET bottles for beverages. We hope to improve the recycling cycle and make effective use of limited global resources.
Environmental advantages of rail and buses
When it comes to transporting people, trains emit approximately one-fifth of the CO2 emissions of private vehicles per unit, and thus could be said to be an environmentally friendly form of transport.

Transport and Tourism website)
Conversion to digital tickets
We are implementing digital tickets that can be purchased with a smartphone, with the smartphone itself becoming the ticket. In addition to allowing people to purchase tickets without waiting in line at a ticket window, this system will produce less waste than conventional paper tickets.
The natural scenery of Hakone
The Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park has been chosen by the Ministry of the Environment as an area that they hope will become a world-class travel destination at which travelers from around the world will want to stay for extended periods. Great efforts are being made to revitalize the region's natural resources and traditional local culture.
Environmental initiatives at hotels
The Odakyu Hotel de Yama in Hakone operated by Odakyu Resorts has operated a commercial food waste processor since 2008. Food waste created during food preparation is recycled into high-quality compost in this processor rather than burned, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and food loss. This compost is then used for the azaleas and roses in the surrounding area, helping to keep the Hakone landscape beautiful.
Green Campaign activities on the seashore
Every year the Odakyu Electric Railway and Enoshima Electric Railway hold a joint "Clean Campaign" at the Katase Higashihama Beach, where Odakyu Group employees and their families take part in beach beautification and cleanup activities.
Share cycling
We are developing a bicycle sharing system in the Shonan area using electrically assisted bicycles. This service is environmentally friendly and is used by local people for trips nearby, as well as a means of transportation for sightseeing around Shonan.
